Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you visit this site, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it. It applies regardless of where you’re located, and is written to meet the requirements of the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), among other privacy laws.

1. Who we are

Yacht Charter Guide (“we”, “us”) operates this website. If you have questions about this policy or your data, you can reach us via our contact page.

2. What data we collect

Data you give us directly:

  • Your email address, if you sign up for our newsletter or budget checklist.
  • Your name and email address, if you leave a comment or use a contact form.

Data collected automatically:

  • Standard analytics data (pages visited, time on site, approximate location, device and browser type) via Google Analytics.
  • Cookies, including affiliate-tracking cookies set when you click a link to a partner site (see our Cookie Policy for details).

We do not collect payment information — all bookings happen on our partners’ own platforms, under their own privacy policies.

3. Why we collect it

  • Sending the newsletter / budget checklist → Email address → Legal basis: Consent
  • Understanding how the site is used, improving content → Analytics data → Legal basis: Legitimate interest
  • Crediting a booking made through our link → Affiliate cookie data → Legal basis: Legitimate interest
  • Responding to a message you send us → Name, email, message content → Legal basis: Consent / contract

4. Who we share it with

We don’t sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers needed to run the site:

  • Google Analytics, for traffic and usage data.
  • Our email service provider, for newsletter delivery.
  • Affiliate networks and charter platforms, only to the extent needed to credit a booking made through our link.
  • Our hosting provider, which processes data as part of running the site.

Each of these providers is bound by its own privacy policy and, where required, a data processing agreement with us.

5. Cookies

We use cookies for analytics, affiliate tracking, and remembering your preferences. Full details, including how to manage or refuse them, are in our Cookie Policy.

6. How long we keep your data

  • Newsletter emails: until you unsubscribe.
  • Analytics data: retained per Google Analytics’ standard retention settings (currently 14 months).
  • Contact form messages: up to 24 months, then deleted.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your data.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent at any time (e.g. unsubscribe from the newsletter).
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us via our contact page.

8. International transfers

Some of our service providers (e.g. Google) may process data outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on their compliance with recognized transfer mechanisms (such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses).

9. Children’s privacy

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be noted on this page.

11. Contact

Questions about this policy or your data can be sent via our contact page.
